- Evaluate staff and service providers. How much technical training will be required before any work even begins? What work can be outsourced to save time?
- Define projects, time-lines and milestones. Start with some well defined objectives, then build on subsequent successes.
- Execute on a change management program. This includes workshops, end user training and setting expectations across the organization.
- “Go live” and start reaping the benefits. Choose an opportune time to roll out the project. Collect statistics to calculate an accurate return on investment (ROI).
- Solicit user feedback. Start work on enhancements to improve the system. From a technical perspective, start work on any automation that can save administrative and maintenance work.
- Congratulate the team. Do a project recap and document the lessons learned. Some time should be allotted to complete any knowledge transfer from outside consultants.
